Cafe Prasad describes it's self as a "Veggie Restaurant" and was voted one of the top 10 Veggie Restaurants in the US in a recent survey.
Last time I ate there I was a little disappointed. They have a great buffet and the buffet food is sold by weight. Being hungry, very hungry I piled my plate with some yummy curry and other goodies and on checkout discovered that it came to the pricly sum of $14, bloody hell! Not that the food was bad, it was excellent but I just felt that for the same price I could of walked down the street to the Dushanbe Tea House, a real restaurant, sat down and dinned on an equally yummy dish for the same price in nicer surroundings.
Not putting up with the 120 decibel blender that always seem to be deployed right when you're about to tuck into your grub is an added benefit of the Tea House. My bad, I here you cry but come on now, why should I have to pay sooo much for a plate of food. From that day onwards I swore never to eat there again - childish, but I don't have the Benjie's to be throwing that kind of lolly at a plate of food!
So here I am now some 2 months later sitting outside the cafe with pooch (my Siberian - Thabo), sipping on a Soy Latte and having just finished off a plate of food. I was in search of an afternoon hang our for me and hond as well as in need of something other than a pastry and a coffee.
I'm happy to report that the food was excellent. Due to the last fiasco, I was half ready to go into instant cardiac arrest on hearing what the damage was but I'm happy to report it only came to $4.50! Christ on a bike, there is a god! The service is still a little slow and it appears to be a lack of staff or training not due to any individual fanning his/her nuts or slacking off . I don't think the average American is willing to wait for 7 mins for a coffee but the coffee wasn't bad at all. You can also check out at the cash registers at the front of the store when the line at the cafe is long. I'm happy to report that the Internet is not too bad either. So Cafe Prasad, you're not so Sad after all. Give it a try, just watch how much you pile on your plate.
