The following is a trip report for a camping trip we took on July 17th 2015 to the Aspen Meadows campground on the North side of the park. The park is about an hour from Boulder, CO or Denver and is accesable from highway 93 in the east or the Peak to Peak Highway in the west. From the State park website:

More than 12,000 acres of dense forest, rocky peaks, and aspen-rimmed meadows laced with miles of trails awaiting the hiker, horseback rider, mountain biker and winter sports enthusiast at Golden Gate Canyon State Park.

SA in the dark ages, 2015 – welcome to the new South Africa!

Welcome to the New South Africa where the government’s lack of planning and their mishandling of the power utility Eskom has led to rolling blackouts. They have literally taken the country back into the dark ages!

According the the Economist:

THE people of South Africa are learning to live in the dark. Their beleaguered power utility, Eskom, is unable to meet electricity demand and in November reintroduced a tortuous schedule of rolling blackouts known as “load shedding”. South Africans now check electricity reports that read like weather forecasts:

Here is some video

Leadville Colorado & Southern Railroad – trip report

At the end of June 2015 I had the pleasure of riding the Leadville Colorado & Southern Railroad – a small out and back tourist railroad that departs daily (summer 10pm and 2pm) from Leadville, CO and travels north for an hour or so toward the now abandoned town of Climax, CO. It’s a pleasant jaunt and ample views of the valley below abound. The conductor, a knowledgable 36 year resident of Leadville emparts historic facts at various times during the trip. The railroad and surrounding area is steeped in history and she does a great job of telling interesting tales of the railroad and Leadville area.

Trains stolen from Boulder, CO – new trains on order!

This was taped near the kids play area at Barnes and Noble in Boulder.
This was taped near the kids play area at Barnes and Noble in Boulder.

Ok, so I’m not talking about the trains Boulder was promised some 10 years ago, we got a bunch of bloody old tarted up busses with new seats instead. I’m talking about the trains, the wooden Thomas the Tank Engine Trains that reside in the kids section at the Barnes & Noble bookstore. Some rascal nicked them two weeks ago and the kids are now left with a very scared Thomas the tank engine to play with. Quite funny really but not so much if your 3!

Now captive in some shitty apartment playing with grubby kids!

Winmail.dat attachments issue with Apple Mail

How many times have we all seen this ....... and now there is a fix
How many times have we all seen this ……. and now there is a fix

It blows my mind that here in 2015 we are still having problems with the old WinMail.dat attachment issue. It stems from the fact that MicrosoftLookOut err,  Outlook still uses a proprietary  format for its email attachments. There is a workaround which I will link to here for Outlook uses  to tweak their settings that it seems to me that perhaps Microsoft should just fix the problem. Of course Microsoft assumes that everybody in the universe sends emails with Microsoft outlook. The main problem is that a lot of email accounts today all web-based and don’t support this attachment Standard or should I say nonstandard.
